STUDENT WORK

JOSH
Josh Kristin:  Josh contacted me when he was home on break from Carnegie Mellon University, where he studies Mechanical Engineering and Art.  He has extensive background with wire working and wrapping to make his three-dimensional sculptures.  Josh specifically wanted to learn silver soldering so he could make very clean joints on his sculptures, rather than having to do cold connections/wraps.  In the process, he also learned to make jump rings, and to use the third-hand tool/s for soldering setup.  Josh has had great success with his art already, including being chosen by The City of Albuquerque Arts Board and the Public Art Urban Enhancement Program as one of five finalists selected to develop site-specific, high-tech artworks for locations in Albuquerque.
Josh:  "Thanks so much for the lessons and time! I am now obsessed with soldering wires.
I enjoy making  3d fractals images, drawing, and making sculptures.  I am especially fascinated by Fractals. Fractals are objects or figures that display self-similarity.   Recently I have been interested in books such as On Growth and Form, The Algorithmic Beauty of Plants, The Algorithmic Beauty of Seaweeds, Sponges and Corals. Particularly fascinating is the exploration of morphogenesis in organisms and computational biology.  I continually wonder if the study of morphogenesis and complex emergent systems in nature could be used for practical engineering applications.  I am studying mechanical engineering and art at Carnegie Mellon University.
New interests include: cellular automata, computational models of morphogenesis, complex systems, emergence, chaos, etc."
