STUDENT WORK

LISA
Lisa "I took Kristin’s Beginning Jewelry and Metals class in Fall of 2008.  I was not a natural at stone setting or ring making (2 of the techniques we learned), but really enjoyed Kristin and the studio time.  I decided to take the Continuing Jewelry and Metals class (despite not being all that impressed with my ring making and stone setting skills after the beginning class), and loved the freedom to create whatever fun pieces I could dream up.

Kristin has a teaching style that I really appreciate. She is encouraging and honest at the same time.  She is also very helpful and engaged when you need her to be, and at other times very hands off (allowing you to make your own mistakes and learn from them).  This approach has allowed me to both learn from her and, at the same time,  find and develop my own creative style.  I have been working in the studio ever since, taking her Continuing Jewelry and Metals class repeatedly and taking advantage of other workshops (etching and casting) and open studio times that she offers."
Professional Information: When I am not in the jewelry studio (which unfortunately is most of the time), I am an Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of the Institute for Social Research at the University of New Mexico.  I teach and study criminology.  I also spend as much time as I can spare on my bicycle and most weekends during the spring and summer months I compete in local bike races and triathlons.
